Kelly Penry


Managing Director of Talent Acquisition
United Airlines


Kelly Penry is currently Managing Director of Talent Acquisition at United Airlines. Together with United Express, Continental Express and Continental Connection, the new United operates a total of approximately 5,800 flights daily to 371 destinations. United has the world’s most comprehensive global route network with non-stop or one stop service from anywhere in the US, with over 80,000 employees. 

Kelly is responsible for a global recruitment team that manages all sources of hire for the company, from the Emerging Leader internship program to executive recruitment activities. Throughout the recent integration of United Airlines and Continental Airlines, Kelly’s team manages annual hiring of 11,000 co-workers for both hourly and salaried roles. In addition to talent acquisition, Kelly is responsible for United’s relocation program, outplacement program and development of the new employment brand. An integral part of Kelly’s work has included implementing military-friendly hiring initiatives and building diverse leadership teams. 
Kelly was Director of Recruiting at Tribune Company before United Airlines. Kelly was responsible for recruitment and hiring for Tribune’s Publishing, Interactive and Broadcasting divisions. While at Tribune, she managed and led the national recruitment function. She introduced a variety of new and innovative sourcing strategies that were instrumental in improving Tribune’s recruiting landscape. Kelly was also responsible for developing key diversity and inclusion hiring initiatives.

Prior to joining Tribune Company, Kelly was the Manager of Experienced Recruiting for the Audit and Business Advisory (ABA) group of Arthur Andersen, LLP in Chicago. She started her eight-year career with Arthur Andersen as a campus recruiter and eventually led the global finance recruitment team. She began her human resources career as a training facilitator at Strategic Management Group (SMG), based in Philadelphia, a company which focused on developing and licensing computer-based training simulations, which was purchased by EDS.
Kelly holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in International Relations and French from Lake Forest College. She is an active member of SHRM, SMA, HRMAC and The Executive Leadership Council. Kelly resides in downtown Chicago, Illinois.
