Our all-day annual Symposium has become the most anticipated premier talent acquisition event in Chicago. This year’s topic compels us to think differently—even provocatively— about how we approach talent acquisition. Hiring the right people is undergoing a transformation for many reasons. These shifts are causing disruptive changes that necessitate us to adapt. Technology innovations are changing HOW we interact with talent. Scarce skills, newly defined competencies and a more global workforce is impacting WHERE we look for talent. The need for speed and agility is changing WHEN we look for talent. Other factors are also shifting concurrently. Entrepreneurship is taking many candidates out of the corporate marketplace. Candidates are seeking more flexible work arrangements. Shifting value in traditional benefits—like healthcare insurance—may cause employees to view working relationships with companies differently. Therefore, the stakes in attracting and retaining the right talent is accelerating. Talent acquisition professionals need to become more agile and aligned to the business than ever before. Getting the talent equation right creates a significant competitive advantage.

Jason AverbookJason Averbook, Chief Innovation Officer, Appirio

Keynote Speaker

We are honored and pleased to have Jason as our keynote speaker this year. Jason is a sought after speaker on the national and international speaking circuit. Jason has been named as One of the 10 World's Most Powerful HR Technology experts.

Today, Jason will set the stage for our all-day Symposium by applying his theories of application technologies, and then translating that knowledge and relating back to us how it relates to recruitment and staffing. He will share his perspective on the workplace of tomorrow, along with an understanding of what HR will need to do to prepare for its continued transformation. These sweeping changes will impact us all, making HR and talent acquisition look massively different into the future.

In this session, you will gain

  1. An understanding of the evolving role of technology for candidates and the organizations seeking to attract and hire the best
  2. How technology tools and systems should work symbiotically for candidates and organizations alike.
  3. What the future of talent technology innovation and the workplace of tomorrow means for talent acquisition to plan and prepare for what’s next.

Jason says: "HR Technology is undergoing many exciting and significant changes as technology, consumer behavior and business models evolve daily, creating new opportunities to empower workforces worldwide and connect teams across the ecosystem.”

Currently an executive with Appirio—one of the fastest growing cloud firms—Jason was the former CEO and co-founder of Knowledge Infusion prior to it being acquired by Appirio in 2012. While at Knowledge Infusion, Jason was responsible for the vision and strategy that propelled the company to be a recognized leader in HR consulting. Jason is deeply involved in the global HR community and frequently contributes to publications that include Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, CIO Magazine, Bloomberg, BusinessWeek, Talent Management Magazine, HR Executive, NPR, SHRM, IHRM and Workforce Management.

HR FROM NOW TO NEXT: RE-IMAGINING THE WORKPLACE OF TOMORROW Jason’s book, HR FROM NOW TO NEXT: RE-IMAGINING THE WORKPLACE OF TOMORROW will tell us how the workplace is changing at mind-bending speeds, and the workforce is morphing along with it. New technologies, evolving best practices, and an increasingly global, mobile working environment can yield amazing results for the corporations who can harness these developments successfully. He’s collected experiences over the period of two decades working with a diverse array of clients. Copies will be available for sale and signing during our Symposium.

10:00 am - 11:30 am PANEL DISCUSSION - PEOPLE

Are Recruiter Profiles Evolving to Achieve Better Hires for the Business?

If finding and hiring the best talent will become even more challenging in the years ahead—are we taking a closer look at the people interacting with external talent? What type of recruiter profiles will matter most? Our moderator will share metrics on major recruiting enablers that impact quality of hire. We’ve lined up top panelists from leading companies to share how they are structuring recruiting teams a bit differently. Some have incorporated gamification to create, incent, certify and measure results. Recruiters have become brand ambassadors and talent advisors. And companies are applying consumer marketing research principles to drive better talent acquisition results. We’ll explore how some companies have strayed a bit from traditional recruiter and sourcer competencies and skill sets to impact their talent acquisition outcomes. You’ll also hear how these organizations are setting up measurements to prove these concepts work in practice.

In this session, you will learn:

  1. What outcomes organizations can expect to achieve by shifting the role of Recruiter to that of Talent Advisor.
  2. How organizations are attempting to attract best fit candidates early on in the hiring process through by creation of Brand Ambassadors.
  3. An introduction to changing recruiter rewards to encourage activity-driven  behaviors—including use of gamification—to achieve better recruiting outcomes that are measureable.

12:00 pm - 1:15 pm LUNCH SERVED (Table Leaders Will Facilitate a Variety of Topics)
1:15 pm - 1:30 pm BREAK & EXHIBITOR SHOWCASE

In this session, we ask that any preconceived ideas on your current staffing process be left at the door—including those that involve technology, legal, risk, or compliance. This session is meant to make you think differently in order to achieve different results. We’ll ask more questions for you to ponder for your organizations than give answers, as we provocatively examine the recruitment process more closely. For example, where might we be inadvertently losing good talent along the way? Brand-conscious organizations are taking a closer look at "candidate-customers”. Is technology driving your process—or supporting it? In this engaging session, we will pull out a clean sheet of paper and look at achieving a talent-centric staffing process, learn about "Voice of Customer” research that we can apply to the candidate experience, and the candidate-customer’s perceptions of Procedural Justice.

In this session, you will learn:

  1. How your current staffing process may be causing you to lose your best candidates, and what you can do differently to change that.
  2. How talent acquisition is paying more attention to "candidates as customers” and why this view is critical to your organization’s business objectives.
  3. Discover why it’s important to provide candidates the best application and recruiting experience possible, and how not listening to the voice of the candidate can be creating a negative brand in the talent market.
