PRESIDENT

 Position Summary:

Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Board of Directors. Drive to achieve the strategic goals set forth by the Board of Directors as outlined and documented within the minutes at the annual strategic planning meeting each year. Be a brand ambassador for STAR Chicago at all times as the leader of the Society.

 Responsible to:

Board of Directors and Members

 Responsibilities:

  • Presides over all activities of the Board  of Directors to ensure the accomplishment of annual goals, objectives, and strategies are met each year
  • Provides vision and creating thinking to advance the Society forward and sustain its relevancy and longevity
  • Monitor the use, accounting, and handling of the STAR Chicago funds
  • Chair all meetings of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Member Events and Programs
  • Participate in/lead in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic planning  and monitor the committee’s successful execution of annual plans
  • Represent STAR Chicago in the human resources and talent acquisition communities as a leader of the Society
  • Maintain communications internally and externally
  • Contribute to succession planning recommendations after first year completion of two year term to allow for President-Elect shadowing during year two.

 Requirements:

PRESIDENT-ELECT

 

Position Summary:

Assist the current President in overseeing all the activities of STAR Chicago.  In the absence of the President, perform all the presidential responsibilities.

 Responsible To:

President of the Board

 Responsibilities:

  • Attend all monthly Board of Directors meetings and Executive Committee meetings, and leads such meetings in the absence of the President
  • Observes, learns and shadows all activities of the President in preparation for assuming the President’s role in the following year
  • Performs all special projects as assigned by the President.
  • Upon request, assist all Officers in performing their responsibilities.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic planning of all Committees, Programs and Activities of the Board.
  • Represent STAR Chicago in the human resources and talent acquisition community.
  • Supports succession planning openings on the Board with recommendations

 Position Summary:

Advise the President, Officers and Board of Directors regarding past practices, general operations, and other matters to assist in the smooth operation of the Society. 

 Responsible To:

 Responsibilities:

  • Act as advisor to the President and Board of Directors regarding past practices and operations in accordance with the Society’s bylaws.  . 
  • Periodically reviews bylaws and recommend any needed changes to the Board of Directors.
  • As Chair of Nominating Committee, assists the Board of Director in the development of a slate of qualified candidates for open officer and Board of Director positions in accordance with the bylaws. 
  • Works with the Executive Director to communicate the nominees for open positions to the general membership for a vote.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic planning for the Society.
  • Represents STAR Chicago in the human resources and talent acquisition community.
  • Attends all monthly Board of Director meetings.

VICE PRESENT – PROGRAMS COMMITTEE

 Position Summary:

Provide strategic direction over all Programs and Chair the Programs Committee to ensure all goals and objectives, including but not limited to educational, attendance and revenue targets are met.

 Responsible To:

President of Board

 Responsibilities:

  • Ensure each year that all programs, program content, speakers and topics proposed by the committee members are in keeping with the STAR Chicago brand and Society mission and values.
  • Oversight and ultimate responsibility for the following annual program: Annual Talent Acquisition Symposium (May), Annual Awards Dinner (Late Sept/early Oct), Awards Selection Committee, Summer Networking Event (July) and Holiday Event (Dec), as well as any special programs throughout the year as decided by the Committee.
  • Secure locations for each of the program, in cooperation with the Executive Director of STAR Chicago.
  • Lead the External Program Events as Master of Ceremony  or as assigned
  • Chair meetings of the Programs Committee engaged in the  selection of industry relevant talent acquisition topics and speakers for attendance by both members and non-members
  • Recruit members to serve on programs committee as needed
  • Serve as hands-on resource to committee members when required in creating and executing on required programs
  • Provide speaker recommendations where needed when the committee is unable to do so to stay on track with final dates and deliverables
  • Write ongoing articles for STAR Chicago newsletters describing upcoming programs and report on recently held program success.
  • Provide information regarding programs and services to the administrative office, newsletter editor, members, and others through presentations, written communications, and personal contact.
  • Review final preparations for meetings to assure that meetings run smoothly.
  • Review program evaluations for feedback to be used in planning future events.
  • Serve as liaison between the members of the program committee.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic planning for the Programs Committee each year.
  • Engage Marketing Committee to promote programs early and effectively in advance of such programs to meet targeted attendance goals
  • Attend all Executive Committee Meetings as an Officer, all Board of Director Meetings, and all Programs Committee Meetings
  • Report on/summarize all updates and feedback on progress and challenges at Monthly Board of Director Meetings and the Monthly Committee Meetings.

VICE PRESIDENT-SPONSORSHIP

 Position Summary:

Identify and approach corporate and talent acquisition related industry sponsors for financial support in exchange for the appropriate and fair promotion of said sponsor’s product or service at events and programs available to members and non-members. Conduct benchmarking and networking activities necessary for creating a viable sponsorship program.

 Responsible To:

President of the Board

 Responsibilities:

  • Create and/or update a list of qualified company leads as potential sponsors.
  • Identify other opportunities for networking with the Chicago area talent acquisition and human resource organizations to obtain sponsorship company leads.
  • Design and create a template of offerings in exchange for financial support to the Society
  • Formulate and present standard Sponsorship proposals outlining benefits and terms and conditions to the Board of Directors for pre-approval.
  • Negotiate with potential sponsors regarding terms and conditions for Program and Event sponsorship arrangements.
  • Communicate with the Sponsors, in writing, sharing pertinent member and non-member audience information and evaluating opportunities to create new or customized Sponsorships
  • Form a Sponsorship committee to assist in the logistics of sponsorship presentations and solicitation to support the necessary Programs
  • Partner together with the Vice President of Programs and Vice President of Professional Development to understand the event costs and expenses needed to be covered by Sponsorship monies.
  • Communicate with the Treasurer to assure that pledged sponsor financial consideration is received and deposited into the STAR Chicago account prior to event program or function.
  • Communicate with the Programs Committee Chair to assure that sponsorship activities are coordinated with the event that they are sponsoring.
  • Coordinate with the Marketing Chair to ensure that Sponsors are correctly communicated and provided the advertising exposure promised under the contract terms and conditions
  • Follow up with the Sponsor, prior to the event, to assure that all expectations (on both sides) are understood and delivered.
  • Communicate with sponsors following the event to determine if they were pleased with value and to determine if they would be interested in sponsoring future events.
  • Attend all Monthly Board of Directors meetings, Executive Committee meetings and Sponsorship  Committee Meetings.
  • Lead and participate in the strategy, development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic planning for the Society
  • Represent STAR Chic ago in the human resources and talent acquisition community.

 VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING

 Position Summary:

Oversee and manage the marketing and public relations activities of STAR Chicago.  Guide the promotion and marketing of all events and activities set forth by the Chairs/VPs of the Programs Committee, Professional Development and Mentorship Committees, Membership Committee, Sponsorship Committee and all other networking events offered for attendance to Members and Non-Members by the Society.

 Responsible To:

President of the Board

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a liaison between the Board of Directors and Committee chairs.

to support attendance through marketing, advertising and promotion of all programs, events and activities of STAR Chicago

  • Work with the VP and Chair of Membership to support exposure that increases memberships.
  • Communicate with local media and social media channels and sources to ensure community awareness of all STAR Chicago activities and events. 
  • Write and submit short Talent Acquisition and HR-related news items for local media, business publications and STAR Chicago newsletter. 
  • Attend all monthly membership and board of directors meetings.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic planning for the chapter.
  • Represent the chapter in the human resources community.
  • Complete other assignments as requested by the president or the board of directors.

TREASURER

 Position Summary:

Act as financial officer and advisor to STAR Chicago Board of Directors.  The treasurer reports the financial status of the organization to the board at its regular board meetings, presenting a treasurer’s report that board members review and approve with a formal vote. The treasurer works with the President and Executive Director to draft and approve the annual operating budget based on anticipated Program revenue and expenses, as well as budgets for Society related activities such as an annual meetings, communications and marketing activities.

 Responsible To:

 Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill the role of financial officer and advisor
  • The Treasurer shall receive, hold, and safeguard in the capacity of financial advisor all funds for the Society.
  • The treasurer is key responsible officer of the Board of Directors and takes part in all Board discussions and action on all business activities.
  • As financial advisor, the treasurer will assess the financial implications of proposed actions by the Board of Directors and inform the Board and/or Committees on recommendations prior to final vote of approving activities impacting the financial well-being of the Society.
  • The Treasurer must observe the financial direction of the Society, recognize potential current or future financial impact, and bring forth all risks and benefits to the attention of the Board of Directors for action.
  • Assist with the development of the annual budget
  • Review the compiled monthly profit & Loss statement as prepared by GSS, Inc.
  • Review of financials at the monthly board meetings and keep the Board informed on the financial state of the Society with any alterations that need to be imposed
  • Review, together with the President and GSS, Inc., any proposed alterations impacting the current budget
  • The Treasurer shall disburse such funds only for normal and usual uses unless the Board of Directors shall otherwise vote to direct.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic planning for the Society
  • Represent STAR Chicago in the human resources and talent acquisition professional community.
  • Contributed to succession planning for the role.

VICE PRESIDENT-PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Position Summary:

The Vice President of Professional Development serves as Chair of the Professional Development Committee(s) which will create, execute and manage programs relating to 1) Mentorship Program opportunities for recruitment industry professionals (i.e., Recruiters, Recruiting Managers, Talent Acquisition Managers/Directors); and 2) Recruiter Training Program opportunities that focus on the honing of recruiter/sourcer (entry level to management) skills/techniques related to talent sourcing, recruiting and hiring of candidates on behalf of companies and organizations. Committee responsibilities includes but not limited to the creation of various programs, training workshops, curriculum and coursework as proposed by the Chair and his/her committee members and approved by the President and Board of Directors. The VP of Professional Development shall have the authority to appoint sub-committees to plan and implement the aforementioned programs. Contribute to succession planning of the role.

 Reports to:

President and Board of Directors

 Responsibilities:

The VP of Professional Development overall responsibilities include, but not limited to, providing:

·         Lead, support and manage two (2) sub-committees, namely, the Mentorship Program and the Recruiter Training Program

-       Appoint a Chair for each committee to lead the day-to-day activities and create a succession planning strategy for Committee lead

-       Ensuring Chair has ongoing committee participation and alignment

-       Task and monitor committee activity that builds upon each prior year’s offering and suggest improvements in programs

-       Actively participate and provide leadership support on monthly calls/meetings for each committee. Monitor action items and ensure proper volunteers are assigned and delivering on action oriented tasks

-       Conduct quarterly program evaluations and report to the Board on past performance and new activities planned, all milestone achievements, opportunities/challenges and areas requiring Board support.

 

This role’s Committee responsibilities shall include, but not limited to:

·         Establishing a (new) Recruiter Training Program Committee

-       Create a Committee Charter (for Board approval) that includes:

o   Purpose (Mission/Vision/Value)

o   Business Plan and Program Framework

o   Formal operating guidelines

o   Research and establish pricing for Training Workshops

o   Clearly documented revenue targets

o   Annual, measurable goals

o   STAR Chicago affiliation with training company partners

o   Curriculum (Proprietary to STAR or owned/marketed by Trainers)

o   Recommendations on Certificate vs. Certification

o   Build calendar of training event workshops

o   Create and execute on Marketing Plan

·         Continue to grow and build upon the (existing) Mentorship Program

o   Review current program success (participation levels, revenue, opportunity for growth, etc.)

o   Define measurable annual goals

o   Survey mentors/mentees for feedback (annually at minimum)

o   Consider establishing various levels for mentor/mentees based on career position and experience level

o   Ongoing and quarterly formal report to Board on revenue, budget, program activities, etc.

VICE PRESIDENT OF MEMBERSHIP

 Position Summary:

Manage the membership function to successfully achieve an increase in membership paid dues and event participation. Achieve membership annual goals.

 Responsible To:

President of Board

Board of Directors

 Responsibilities:

  • Recruit new members and convert current members at end of membership term.
  • Recruit volunteers to serve on the committee.
  • Respond to requests for information about Membership through emails, phone and in person contact and other correspondence.
  • Notify members of membership status; contact members from whom more information is needed for application to membership.
  • Assist the membership directory chair for the printing of the annual membership directory and addendums for distribution.
  • Maintain supplies of membership materials:  applications, informational brochures, etc.
  • Carry out ad hoc assignments of president (e.g., membership promotion, recommendation of membership criteria changes, etc.)
  • Plan prospective member events.
  • Act as a liaison between the board of directors and the committee chairs.
  • Attend monthly membership and board of directors’ meetings.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic planning for the chapter.
  • Represent the chapter in the human resources community.
  • Complete other assignments as requested by the president or the Board of Directors.
