His career has predominantly been about bringing technology innovations to the business community. PM GENERAL SESSION | AI in Sourcing & Recruiting - The Good & The Bad

AI and machine learning algorithms are all the rage right now.  Everyone is talking about jobs getting automated, deep learning algorithms that get better and faster with each interaction, and the loss of cashiers at the McDonalds kiosk!  When it comes to staffing roles, we're seeing a huge influx of software companies promising the removal of many manual steps in the recruitment process.  No more sourcing!  No more scheduling!  No more bad job descriptions!  No more spam-y emails!  Life is now easy!

Now calm down….let's do a reality check.  While I believe that there are going to be some really cool things developed in the near future (3 - 5 years), we are still not there yet.  The AI dream has not come true yet.  The reasons for this are many, but the main ones that we will focus on are not machine-related, but human related.  

Which advancements promise to reshape the industry and which are just hype?  In this session, we're going to take a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of AI in recruiting and sourcing.  We'll talk about the sourcing tools, how they search, how they work and how they might need to be second guessed.  We'll talk about AI used in recruitment tools and how it makes our lives so much easier but at the same time, it can give you the false impression that you're doing the job right.  We'll talk about the dream vs. the reality.  You'll come away from this session with a better idea of the sourcing, job search, messaging, scheduling and recruitment tools that might work for you.  We want you to question the machines, because if you don't, then who will? 

Mark Tortorici - Founder, Training Manager, & Staffing Manager at Transform Talent Acquisition -

Mark Tortorici is a Training, Recruiting, and Sourcing Manager who has been providing expert-level training for sourcers and recruiters since 1997.  He is also the founder of Transform Talent Acquisition, which specializes in training for high technology computer concepts, advanced active & passive sourcing techniques, and full life-cycle recruitment process. Mark has created and delivered robust training programs for companies like Google, Apple, Facebook, Twitter, Ebay, Pinterest, Disney, Yahoo, and many others.  He has trained thousands of staffing professionals in person through technical and advanced sourcing classes as well as month-long training courses for individuals with no experience who were looking to break into the staffing world.

Trisha Degg VP, Talent Programs and Operations at Illinois Technology Association (ITA)

Trisha is the VP of Talent Programs and Operations for Illinois Technology Association – a business services organization focused on helping great tech companies scale. Trisha helps ITA’s 500-plus member companies navigate Chicago’s talent pool to find the best of the best. With almost 10 years of corporate recruiting, campus recruitment, and HR experience, Trisha excels at finding new ways to locate talent, and is passionate about networking. She works with the heads of HR/Talent at ITA companies to help develop and refine their procedures and processes. Trisha’s specialties are talent attraction and retention, organizational development, manager training, interview skills/resume writing, building and refining internship programs, and employment branding. Trisha also heads up the overall programming of ITA, including setting the strategic direction of all ITA's events and programming, confirming they bring value to the membership-base. She also acts as Executive Director of ITA's philanthropic arm, TechForward. TechForward's goal is to support STEM education in Illinois, focusing on under-served communities to help promote diversity in STEM careers.

Tim Mote is the Senior Director of Global Talent Acquisition for Beam Suntory. John Talarico, Global Head of Talent Acquisition & Development at DRW

John is the Global Head of Talent Acquisition and Development at DRW. With over 20 years of experience in hnancial services talent acquisition, he currently leads lateral hiring, university strategy and educational initiatives for the 800-person principal trading firm. John's previous roles include Vice President, Human Capital Management at Goldman Sachs and Director, Human Capital at Citadel both in New York and Chicago. John is originally from Connecticut and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Vermont. He currently resides in Chicago with his wife and two children.

Amie Ernst, Recruiting Manager at Amazon AWS AI

Amie Ernst is a talent practitioner in leveraging tools and technologies that enhance the candidate experience and strategic talent acquisition initiatives. Amie has led recruiting teams for over 10 years and has a proven track record in technical recruitment and sourcing team development. As the Recruiting Manager for Amazon AWS AI, Amie leads a recruiting team of 21 people supporting Machine Learning and AI initiatives. Prior to Amazon, Amie was the Operations Manager at CareerBuilder for the Personified Sourcing RPO where she managed a team of 48 sourcers. Prior to CareerBuilder she worked as Recruiting Manager of the TASI Group. Amie is passionate about developing people, processes, AI and automation, strategic innovations of recruiting roadmaps. Amie is a 5 time Grandmaster challenger winner of Sourcecon GM Challenge, a global technical sourcing contest. She is now on the advisory board for the Sourcecon Conference and a 3 time key note speaker. Amie has earned a Master’s Degree in Human Resources and Organizational Management from Walden University.
